Connecting Sociology and YOU!

The Pandemic and YOU

Have you quarantined yourself after traveling, exhibiting Coronavirus symptoms, or being around an infected person? Was your quarantine enforced by anyone? Were you willing or resistant to quarantine? How do you feel about other people who test positive for COVID-19 yet refuse to self-isolate?

Formal Social Control

During the height of the pandemic, government officials and the police used different techniques to keep symptomatic COVID patients away from the general population. This included the use of house arrest monitoring technology and drone surveillance equipment (Phillips 2020; Shater 2020). In Kentucky, police officials forcibly isolated a man who repeatedly refused to quarantine by using personnel to surround him in his house so he would not go out in public and infect others (Andrew 2020).
