Future medical sociologists will study COVID-19 patients and their relationship to health care. They will also study the broader social reactions to the health care professionals. This could include the nightly rituals of applause supporting frontline workers that took place early on in the pandemic and the death threats to public health officials over mandates to wear masks and social distance (Associated Press 2020; Jeffery 2020).
