In-depth interviews, participant observation, and ethnography are just a few of the qualitative research methods affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. Mandates to social distance and restrictions on gatherings have made it harder for researchers to access their research subjects, let alone do experiments. Additionally, research that might require confidentiality is harder to conduct when the subject is at home with family and possibly less able to speak freely (Ravitch 2020). Going forward, technology will play an ever-increasing role in research, and sociologists, like other researchers, will adapt to the age of COVID-19.
