Connecting Sociology and YOU!

The Pandemic and YOU

How has your shopping experience changed since the start of the pandemic? Do you still see signs about social distancing? Wearing masks? Limiting the number of people in a store?

Social Aggregate

A social aggregate is made up of people who come together briefly and accidentally. This might include standing in an elevator, checking out in a grocery store, or eating at a fast food restaurant. In the age of COVID-19, the interaction of social aggregates must also be managed. These include limits on the number of people allowed in an elevator at one time, and warnings not to talk lest you spread the virus (Lanese 2020). “Stand here” circles now dot the floors of grocery stores so customers maintain distance between themselves and others. Many restaurants have opted exclusively for takeout service to ensure that the social aggregates that frequent their businesses maintain proper distance.
