Connecting Sociology and YOU!

The Pandemic and YOU

Are you part of a group that usually meets in person? If so, how has the group dynamic changed throughout the pandemic? Has your group asked for continued support or involvement? Have you noticed other businesses and organizations asking for donations recently?

Social Structures

The family, economic, educational, political, and religious intuitions have all been impacted by COVID-19. Consider, for example, religious intuitions. Houses of worship are dependent on donations, which typically come from parishioners during service. Once social distancing orders were put into effect, parishioners couldn’t go to services; everyone was ordered to stay home. The result is that even large religious organizations like the Catholic Church have seen a drastic decline in donations and are struggling to survive (Forrest 2020). From schools and places of employment closing to the debate over the viability of mail-in voting during the election season, concerns over COVID-19 have forced us to reassess the patterns of relations that have historically offered stability in our lives.
