The sociological imagination encourages us to see the relationship between our personal troubles and public issues. The Coronavirus pandemic put these two concepts into clear focus. Initially, the federal reaction to the pandemic focused on the experience of “one person coming from China” and approached the issue as a personal trouble (Qiu 2020). As the numbers of infected individuals started to increase, authorities realized that COVID-19 affects society as a whole and needs a more coordinated response. The White House Coronavirus Task Force was created on January 29, 2020, to spearhead that response.
