The 2020 presidential election was unprecedented and historic. In light of the polarization of political opinions between the Republicans and Democrats, it is important to note that sociology does not choose sides. Yes, individual sociologists have political opinions and allegiances, but the discipline of sociology should be value-neutral and not allow political bias. Sociological research should also reflect these characteristics. Therefore, this chapter aims to address the integration of politics and economics in a value-neutral manner.

As you read this chapter, consider if our political system needs reforms. How can sociological research inform public policy to promote the greater good?

We hope you have been looking forward to learning about the science of happiness and why it is included in a sociology textbook. As we tie them all together, you will hear how the science of learningachievement, and happiness are connected to your academic goals. It is similar to a three-legged stool; if one leg is missing or shorter, it impacts the stool’s stability — or your ability to reach all your academic goals.

We will continue to reinforce what you have learned in the previous chapters so you will have opportunities to practice. Reach out to us at Support@SociologicalYOU.com if you have any questions or issues.
